Monday 2 July
Kikos, for the first time in 31 runs for us, had an off day yesterday. He had been under the weather on the run up to the race, but blood tests and scopes had put us in the mind that all was well with him, and that he was over the sniffles, but unfortunately they proved misleading. Sam reported him to be keen and up for it over the first few, but after a mile he was not happy with him. He was in trouble turning out of the back and cooked by the time they straightened for home, where Sam was rightly easy on him. There were no intial signs of a reason for the poor run, but a while afterwards Kikos did get a 'runny nose' again, and was obviously not over the infection that had bugged him a week or so ago. This goes a long way to explaining the run, and we can put a line through it. He has gone out in the field this morning, and will be given plenty of time to get back on song. Hopefully he will be back to form and ready for Market Rasen at the end of the month. A shame for his owners who made the trip, but it was a good day out, even if personally I didn't feel at my best either! Unlike Kikos, me not feeling on top form was totally self induced!!
