Monday 20 August
What a lovely weekend!! Not a cloud in the sky, with some pretty impressive temperatures as well. Saturday morning it was just about as nice as it gets up the top of the hill at Fences Farm. Jo, Kevin and Andrew enjoyed the weather as they watched their horse Kikos do a super piece of work with E Major. Kikos has been in fine fettle for a few weeks and all roads lead to Hereford at the end of the month! Howard, Terence and Martyn were over after breakfast to see their new boy with their other horse San Telm. He is a horse that I have purchased for them, and after watching him do 2 gentle canters past us on Saturday, he looks like he could just be pretty decent. He has the looks, the pedigree, and the form to rank highly in the novice hurdle division this season, so fingers crossed for them! There will be more details and photos of this exciting new addition to the string later in the week. A busy Saturday night - 2 parties, with a very brief trip to Henlow Dogs in between to see our dog Apollo try to land his 3rd race on the spin, and bag the £500 first prize in the process. Pleased to say he did it - he broke well and squeezed up the rail on the first bend to gain a small lead going down the far side. We thought he was not far enough clear as he entered turn 3 but he stayed on well to win by a neck! A great training performance from his handler Terry Westwood who declared the £500 win - 'A nice little pick up!'.Apollo has now won 4 out of his last 6 races. Kevin Copperwheat and I picked up the presentation jacket and trophy with the girls, and it was a great 20 minutes! Really enjoyed seeing my cousin Mandy with her husband Andy at the track - we decided she was our lucky omen, so we have booked her for all the horses runs as well. Tannerman and Smart Exit will be back at Fences Farm on Friday. Their incisions are just about healed, and Fiona will have tack on them while they are on the walker this week to harden their girths. This means that the Fences Team can crack on with then straight away. Their arrival means that we now have them all back in work, and I am really looking forward to next season, which I think, with the quality that we have assembled should be our best season ever! We have some very nice novices, that have had a season learning their trade and after wind ops are now ready to go on and win. We have horses that have won their novices last season and now enter handicap ranks on attractive marks, as they are poised to step up in trip, and we have an exciting youngster that could really put the yard on the map this year! I also have a couple more to buy, so all in all I can't wait!! Give me a ring if you fancy joining in with the fun! It costs as little as £20/week, and I have shares in the greyhound, Apollo available too!!
