Thursday 4 June
On Monday evening I received a lovely email form Janice Albone. Janice and Martin own a share in Dawn Commander, and have had some great days at the races. For a couple of years now, Janice has been fighting serious illness, with enormous courage, and after having given it a send off once, it has recently returned. Janice has recently had a serious operation, and I am pleased to say she is on the mend, and very much hoping to be in Southwell next week when Dawn Commander runs. She is looking forward to seeing her friends and co-owners again. Janices kind email went on to say how much she enjoys the updates on the site, and that the thought of Dawn Commander has kept her going through some very dark times. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope that DC can put a spring in her step next week! Talking of DC owners - it was good to see Tom Macreadie last night - he popped in, and we had a good natter over a couple of pints down The Jackal - A few social plans made as well, including the Charity Cricket Match - to be held this year on June 26th at Eversholt, Tom will be donning the whites again! Man of the moment Paddy Brennan looks like coming this year! All owners, club members and clients are welcome - 6-00pm at Eversholt CC. Brendan Powell should be there as well, and he was in this morning to give Maypole Lass a pop over the chase fences. She did it well, and now has the options of a spin over fences if the races are there to be won. Brendan also gave Dawn Commander a spin up the hurdles once, and he did it really nicely - no more than the once up needed! Focusing, owned by George Hartigan, and a recent arrival at Fences Farm was in this group, and Stuart gave her a canter after the other two had schooled. Focusing is being prepared for a mares bumper soon. All eyes will be on The Oaks tomorrow, and fingers will be crossed that Crystal Zvesda can win the classic, a dream harboured by her breeder Mrs Robeson before she passed away earlier this year! It will be emotional if she does it!! It never ceases to amaze me how our great sport can stir up such stories and emotions!
