Friday 29 December
On Monday, Ulysses is due to make his yard debut in Fakenham. He is due to run in their first race, and I will have a few spare O&T Badges if anyone would like to blow away the New Years Eve cobwebs. Just email me on nickbrownracing@gmail.com to claim them. Ulysses is a fun horse, and schools really well - he gets plenty of weight off of his rivals in this race, and the step up in trip looks sure to suit, judging by his pedigree. As you know Stuart has a suoer team of young horses, that have been running really well and winning in the last few weeks. A few days ago we added to this exciting group - with the purchase of Camaro - a 5 yr old gelding, by Khalkevi who has had two runs in Irish Bumpers. Camaro was well fancied to win on debut in Downpatrick in the spring, but ran very poorly, and was found to be a sick horse afterwards. He was given a summer break, and reappeared in Down Royal at their big meeting in November. Again contesting a bumper, he was pretty keen on the day, but ran a cracking race to finish fifth, beaten just 21 lengths by Rapid Escape from the Gordon Elliott yard who has gone on to win 2 further bumpers, including a Listed event, and is rated a one of Elliotts brightest prospects. The second and fourth in this race went on to be second and third on really bad ground in Punchestown behind a horse that Willie Mullins says could be his Champion Bumper horse, and yesterday the form was backed up by Not Many Left who was beaten just 2 3/4 lengths by Flawless Escape in what the Racing Post described as a hot Maiden Hurdle in Leopardstown. Camaro has been at Fences Farm for a couple of weeks and has settled in really well - everyone that has ridden him really like him, and they are some very good judges, and have not got one wrong yet! I am very excited to have got him. He For Sale as a whole to stay in the yard, although I would consider syndicating him if there were 5/6 people out there that fancied haveing a share in him. Price is £35,000 + VAT.
